The mission of Echoview Farm is to demonstrate that sustainable agriculture can work in western North Carolina and beyond. That means listening to the land, and to the families who have tilled these hills longer than we have. It means passing on what we learn, through educational programs and community involvement. With 1800 bines on 1.75 acres of former tobacco land, Echoview Hopsyard is the largest producer of hops in North Carolina. The farm, in Weaverville, sits at the southernmost point of hops' range. Local brewers have shown serious interest in Echoview's hops. Julie Jensen, the owner, says: "Hops weren't the obvious choice for Western North Carolina, but they have turned out to be a great choice. Between the local breweries and the local arts and crafts scene, and the simple fact that people like coming to the farm to see them grow, hops really fit in with what we're looking to do at Echoview Farm. I like to think of this hopsyard as the 'spectacular' side of sustainable farming."
